Currently, funding for starting a business can come from a variety of sources, some local and others general. Below, we'll outline the options available to you and answer your questions:
Are subsidies only for unemployed people?

Do I always have to pay back the financial aid I receive?
So let's get down to business, here are your options:
1. European funds such as the European Regional Development Fund, the Cohesion Fund and the European Social Fund:
How much is the funding? The amount available with this form of funding is up to approximately PLN 50,000.00.
Who can apply for funding? EU grants are intended for people who want to start their own business and are registered as unemployed.
What's worth knowing? A huge advantage of this form of financing is that it's non-refundable. Of course, you must adhere to the terms of the contract, but they are clearly defined and won't overly restrict you.

2. Funding from the PUP (employment office):
What is the grant amount? In this case, the amount awarded ranges from PLN 15,000.00 to PLN 30,000.00.
Who can apply for funding? Employment office funding is available to unemployed individuals who have not run a business within 12 months of submitting their application (your employment office may specify a longer period, so please check the applicable period for your location).
What's worth knowing? This is a non-refundable benefit, provided you adhere to the terms and conditions set out in the contract, which will be clearly formulated and made known to you from the outset.

3. Funding from LGD (from the Local Action Group):
How much is the subsidy? The subsidy amount ranges from PLN 50,000.00 to PLN 100,000.00.
Who can apply for funding? LGD funds are intended for both employed and unemployed people living in rural and urban-rural municipalities with a population of no more than 20,000.
What's worth knowing? You can obtain all information about LGDs operating in your town from your local authorities (e.g., city hall).

4. Local loan fund (financing from local government):
How much is the grant? The amount granted under this assistance can reach up to PLN 500,000.00, but your own contribution of at least 20% of the loan amount is required.
Who can apply for funding? Loan funds run by local governments are intended for individuals who have been running their own businesses for at least four months.
What's worth knowing? The funding takes the form of a loan, so you'll have to repay it regularly in installments.

5. Loans and credits for small businesses:
How much is the funding? This form of assistance for entrepreneurs can amount to up to PLN 100,000.00.
Who can apply for funding? Small business loans and credits are available from day one of business operation.
What's worth knowing? Loans and credits are repayable, so it's important to always pay attention to the interest rate. The positive side of this source of financing is that banks tend to lower the requirements for applicants.
